Galapagos Islands, Santa Cruz, Natural Process, Speciality Roast
Single microlot
In 1990, the Gonzalez family purchased the Hacienda El Cafetal plantation.
The Galapagos Islands benefit from a unique microclimate on the planet. The Humboldt Current, the intense equatorial sun, and the dramatic climate change that occurs as altitude increases are examples of components driving this very distinctive microclimate.
Small rivers fed by the 'El Junco' (a volcanic crater lake) flow gently down the rocky slopes on the south side of the island. This mineral-rich spring water keeps the volcanic soil moist and fertile, which is ideal for growing coffee.
The coffee trees on the Hacienda El Cafetal plantation are organically grown and benefit from the island's exceptional microclimate. The coffee beans are picked by hand, dried in the sun and then washed.
Today we are fortunate to bring you this truly remarkable coffee thanks to the dedication and hard work of the Gonzalez family.
